A couple of days ago I was feeling nostalgic and was looking back at my past posts and I decided to pick up where I left off. It has been nine years since I have added anything to this blog. Not sure why I stopped and I’m not sure if random blogging is still a thing that people do. I have changed the name of this blog from Truly me being me to Hoerman’s House. I felt it needed a fresh name, but I am still just being me.
Today was our final day for hiking while on vacation. We hiked the Tolby Creek Trail for 5.52 miles in intermittent rain. We didn’t get in the miles this year like we did in past years. However, we took our time, enjoyed the scenery and each others company. On the schedule for tomorrow is hot stone massages and shopping.
This little fella greeted us just past the trailhead.
Today Glen and I did absolutely nothing. We sat in our pajamas in front of the fireplace and just had a nice, stress free day. We were rewarded for our efforts. We looked out our back door and got to watch some deer. They are very used to people so they were totally unfazed by us being out on the deck taking picture after picture. Oh, and there were ducks too 🙂
These fellas were cleaning their catch and this patient duck was waiting for scraps.
Today we drove over to the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge. It was on my list of things to see while we were here. We then hiked the trail that runs along the rim from the bridge. It was a nice flat hike 🙂

Today Glen and I hiked. It started out easy enough on the Rinconada Trail. Then we opted to take the Little Arsenic Trail which went down to the Rio Grande River. Going down was the easy part. Going back up to the rim….I now know that if I end up in hell, my eternity will be spent hiking up switch backs lugging a ruck sack. We did manage to get some very nice pictures.
We spotted a solitary Indian Paint Brush, so naturally I had to take it’s picture.

Obligatory selfie….I still look like a happy camper so we hadn’t started the horrible ascent.
The only wildlife we saw besides a bunch of circling buzzards was this guy.
We have no idea what typed of plant this is, but we thought it very interesting looking.
Today Glen and I rented a RZR to ride up into the mountains. It was pretty chilly, but thankfully I dressed for the occasion. We took a bunch of pictures. Hope you enjoy them.
Today was day 2 of our vacation and we are still pretty worn out from yesterday. We did venture out into the rain to check out the vendors at the arts and craft festival. The vendors had amazingly beautiful things that I wanted to buy. So many things and not enough $$. The music was fantastic as well. I kept hearing a woman in the crowd loudly exclaiming her amazement over this particular group.
They also had a steampunk fashion show.
These were all the participants. The girl who dressed up as a steampunk ghost buster won the contest.
After the festival we headed to Comanche Creek Brewery so Glen could sample and buy some beer.
It was cold and raining, but the beer was good, the views were fantastic and we made a new friend.
The brewery owner’s dog was super friendly and he very much appreciated the neck and ear scratched we bestowed upon him.
This year for vacation we decided to head to New Mexico for our vacation. It only took us 12 very flat, boring hours to drive here 🙂 We are staying in a very nice condo that has fantastic views. Can’t wait to see what the rest of the week has in store for us.
Yesterday, I met up with a friend and we went to Burr Oak Woods Nature Center to walk the trails. This fella greeted us as we started our trek.
While looking up information on this turtle I discovered that the three toed box turtle is the official reptile for the state of Missouri.
Like Mother Teresa, only better.
